This is a list of North America’s countries, dependencies and nations, listed from the largest to the smallest in km2. It includes all land area and internal waters – in effect this is the data that is generally used for lists referred to as the ‘biggest countries‘ or ‘largest countries‘, as opposed to the ‘countries with the most land area‘. The data below comes from the United Nations’ (UN) Food & Agriculture Organization (FAO).

The two biggest countries in North America are both in the top 3 largest nations on Earth – Canada is the 2nd biggest country in the World, the US is 3rd in that global list. However, the US is only 3rd because it has recently re-classified it’s coastlines, and the coastlines of its foreign dependencies, as ‘country area’, in an effort to make itself bigger than China, which it has achieved, but only through those tactics.
