Black Gold: Coffee & Trade
Film by: Marc Francis / Nick Francis
Year: 2006
Length: 77 mins
Hosted By: Google Video

Africa's recent plight is rarely given any meaningful coverage on our tv's or airwaves. It generates very little column inches in our newspapers and magazines, but it does seem natural to think that we are fairly aware of what is going on there. Well, we are not. The African continent's greatest battle in recent years has been against our political leaders, in a fight to become self-sufficient. Our guys are hard-balling their guys, for decades, to keep the prices very low on certain commodities which the third world exports and depends greatly on, including coffee. This film charts one man's battle to get a fair price for Ethiopian coffee beans.

note* bad sound quality - also hosted in nine separate parts by youtube with much better sound quality
