Deeply revered by the Palestinian people, but treated like an annoying glitch in the system by her own countries government, the Rachel Corrie tragedy has polarised opinion - between the Israeli/US government's point of view, and the rest of us. This film was the first ever Palestinian film to be screened at the United Nations, and it not only exposes the violent suppression of the Palestinian people by the US-supported Israeli administration, but it also highlights the injustice which is present within the Middle East. The filmmaker, Yahya Barakat teaches at Al-Quds University, and one of his main hopes would be that somebody might recognise the Caterpillar D9R armoured bulldozer driver who crushed Rachel to death, because the Israeli administration will not release his name. The giant US corporation has sold many of these bulldozers to the Israeli's, in the full knowledge that they would be used for such destruction, and for the continuing gross human rights violations related to the ever-expanding internationally illegal Israeli settlements on Palestinian sovereign land. |
