Michael Moore's recent hit documentary unveiled some of the inadequacies within the US healthcare system, and it brought a little more attention to the subject in general. In Sicko he de-bunks the notion that the standard of care available in the US system is of a better quality than what can be expected within the Canadian and Cuban healthcare systems, a line which the US mainstream media seems hell-bent on promoting. There is a high entertainment factor in Moore's films, but as ever, there is also an underlying story which deserves to be investigated further. |
