The third and final episode - entitled The Attic - examines Margaret Thatcher's use of Churchill's rhetoric to do as he had done, to re-awaken the glory and power of Britain's past. Curtis concludes that Thatcher used a vision of Churchill's vision of the past, to get the public behind her economic policy's which ultimately failed and left the country in financial ruin. Her brief tenure in No.10 Downing Street was also marked by 2 very big episodes in Britain's recent past, the Falklands War and even more extensively, the Civil Rights movement in Northern Ireland. To this day she is revered as a great leader, but this film highlights some of her inadequacies, and the Iron Lady had some very major ones indeed. |
