OVERVIEW OF THE FILM
This film begins in Part I with putting forward the case that all religions are devolved from the same storylines, which are all related to astrology. They say religions, throughout history, have been used by those in power, to control the populations, and that religion itself is just a myth. They then bring forward another popular way to control the masses in Part II, through the modern-day terrorist attacks, with using 911 as an example. Again this is used by those on top, to keep us in check. And finally, in Part III, the film then goes on to attempt to establish who is using religion and terror attacks to control us. They say its certain Banking families. They say that the banking system is set up to rip us off, and keep us in eternal debt to them, and that they use their power to get America involved in wars to keep their tidy profits flowing freely. At the end of the film you do feel that the producers have managed to pull all these events and beliefs into a coherent argument, and that a system of governance that has been in place for some time, becomes a little more exposed.
PART I: THE GREATEST STORY EVER TOLD
The first part of 'Zeitgeist - The Movie' is possibly the most controversial. It is atleast a subject that not too many people have touched on effectively up to now, the so-called "Jesus Myth". The film argues that the story of Jesus is one that's been told and re-told by various religions throughout history, and that it was only given credence by the Roman's, in an attempt at exerting control over Europe, from the First Council of Nicea in 325 AD. As an example of a similar story to that of Jesus, here is how the story of Egyptian "Saviour" Horus goes; He was born on December 25th to a virgin mother. A star appeared in the East, which 3 wise men used to locate, and travel to, the new-born baby boy. He was a prodigal child teacher by 12, baptized at 30, and then began his ministry. He had 12 disciples with whom he travelled about, done miracle's all the time like walking on water and healing the sick, and was known as things like "the lamb of god" and "the good sheppard". Horus was eventually betrayed, crucified, and then resurrected 3 days later. And as far as similarities between Horus & Jesus go, that's only the tip of the iceberg. The film goes on to tell us that a whole load of other religious figures had many of these same attributes like Attis, Krishna, Dionysus and Mithra.
Here is the curious thing. They say this is because the story itself is derived from the astrological calendar. Every year on the night of the 24th, and the morning of the 25th of December, the brightest star in the sky is Sirus, in the east. It aligns itself, through the night, with the 3 brightest stars in Orion's Belt, called the 3 Kings. And on the morning of the 25th, the Sun is born with Sirus and the 3 Kings perfectly aligned. Hence the 3 wise men followed the bright star in the east, to find where the new "son" was born. Also, on the 22nd of December, during the Winter Solstice when the days change from getting shorter to getting longer again, the Sun reaches its lowest point on the horizon, and a strange thing happens. It looks like it stops dead in the sky for 3 days, where it resides beside the Southern Cross constellation. Then, on the 25th, it begins to rise again to signify the changing of seasons & longer days. And this is where they say the death and resurrection part of the various "saviours" stories come from. The Sun dies, on the cross, is dead for 3 days, and then resurrected. There are many other astrological links to the Bible, and other religious books too, and the film explores some of these. The producers say that religion has been used down through the ages, by those in power, to exert control over the mass populations, and that Christianity, and other modern day religions, are no different. They say that the concept of religion actually disassociates us from our natural environment, and we humans are being held back because of this.
PART II: ALL THE WORLD'S A STAGE
Part II links this religious distortion of myth to keep the population in line, to what the producers say is our latest modern day myth, the official story of 911 & the "War On Terror". They hit on all the usual stuff like how the Bush administration said they had no prior warnings, even though the film points to atleast 12 countries giving prior warnings to the US, in relation to 911. Not to mention all their own internal reports warning of such an attack, and the training exercises that many US agencies done to defend against such an attack in the preceding years. They also go into how the head of Pakistani Intelligence wired the leader of the so-called 19 hi-jackers $100,000 just before the attacks, and how the 911 Commission said that the funding of 911 had "little practical significance" and decided not to investigate that side of things. And that many of the alleged hi-jackers have subsequently been found to be alive, and un-connected. They hit on how the plane that hit the Pentagon had officially been vaporised, which is physically impossible, and that, miraculously, an un-damaged passport of one of the terrorists was found. They also add that the US administration also said that they identified the alleged terrorists from fingerprints and DNA, but how so, when they are supposed to be vaporised?
They mention the fact that no debris was found at Shanksville, another plane officially vaporized. The Twin Towers collapse then comes in for the usual heavy criticism. They say it could not have come down the official way, by the pancake theory, as there would have been a stack of floors left on top of each other, and a spindle of central columns left in the middle. Rather, it looked like a controlled demolition due to coming down at free-fall speed, which is backed up by the endless reports of secondary explosions before the planes hit, and right up until both towers fell, including plenty of incidents live on various news channels. The Zeitgeist producers put forward Professor Steven Jones' theory of Thermite being used. This would explain the strange angled cuts/melts on some steel beams at ground zero, and the 2000 degree (F) pools of molten lava that were present under the rubble until December. They also bring forward the usual argument about Norad on the morning of September the 11th. That they had so many "war games" going on, that it confused the defences of the US, and they couldn't distinguish between a real hi-jacked plane, and a phantom. Usually Norad would have planes up there in 1 min, and interception would take about 10 minutes, and they had a 100% record on over 60 intercepts in the previous year. But on 911, 4 planes got through, and they had 80 minutes to intercept, and not 1 US military plane got even close to any of them.
And after the tragedy, they say that Bush & Cheney manipulated their way out of talking openly to the 911 Commission. The rules they set were; They would only talk together, not separately, they would not be under oath, there would be no press or families of the victims present, and no recordings or transcripts were to be made. They also say the 911 Commission was handicapped by having a "unanimous" rule. Meaning that if 1 Commissioner dis-agreed with something, then it would not be in the final report. They had Philip Zelikow planted to do just that. And to top it all off, the administration then used scare tactics to keep the "War On Terror" in the news. It wasn't any terrorism we were hearing about, just the "War On Terror" in general, when in fact almost all of the terrorism suspects we heard about have now been released without charge. That was after their (usually less than generous) mugshots graced our front pages of course!
The producers then bring forward Ted Gunderson who was the former FBI Chief for LA, Dallas and Memphis Operations, and he makes some stark statements. He says that the CIA were responsible for the following terrorist attacks; The Marine Barracks, the Embassy in Kenya, Pan-Am Flight 103, Oklahoma City, the USS Cole, and the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Centre. They also go into how on the morning of the 7/7 Bombings in London, that Peter Power had admitted to running an exercise for the UK government, to see how they would cope with an exact scenario that actually unfolded, including at the very same tube stations, so they were handily on the scene in minutes. Thats exactly what happened in the US on September the 11th 2001 too. The producers make the point that it all points to population control, and now those in power will do as they please. And they are doing so. They have increased the US military budget by $100bn a year since 911, and nearly all of the American Bill Of Rights has been cancelled, in accordance with the "Patriot Act" and other laws brought in since 911. And they have waged 2 "pre-emptive" wars (Iraqi & Afghani) killing 800,000 conservatively. The producers say, that is only the beginning. There is more to come from them.
PART III: DON'T MIND THE MEN BEHIND THE CURTAIN
The final part of the film begins with a a piece of a very poignant speech by John F. Kennedy, when he was addressing the American Newspaper Publishers Association back in 1961, just 2 and a half years before he was asassinated; The very word "secrecy" is repugnant in a free and open society; and we are as a people inherently and historically opposed to secret societies, to secret oaths and to secret proceedings.... For we are opposed around the world by a monolithic and ruthless conspiracy that relies primarily on covet means for expanding its sphere of influence - on infiltration instead of invasion, on subversion instead of elections, on intimidation instead of free choice.... It is a system which has conscripted vast human and material resources into the building of a tightly knit, highly efficient machine that combines military, diplomatic, intelligence, economic, scientific and political operations. Its preparations are concealed, not published. Its mistakes are buried, not headlined. Its dissenters are silenced, not praised. No expenditure is questioned, no rumor is printed, no secret is revealed.... I am asking your help, in the tremendous task, of informing and alerting the American people, confident that with your help, man will be what he was born to be: free and independent. - Watch/Read the full JFK speech here>
That speech is carefully cut and sliced together by the makers of the film to tell what story they want to tell. Go check out the full speech at that link (above). This is what JFK was saying; He is telling the people that there is danger from financial institutions & industry, aided by the media, and they are intent on wreaking havoc on humanity, for personal fortune, power and control. He is also saying that he believes that a lot of wars are started and prolonged by these institutions, and the human race suffers because of it. He is asking the media to get a conscience and start doing their job! The film goes on to quote various other high-level US government figures, including some more former US presidents, that have warned about this realisation, that the world has been taken over by a group of corporations & banks, and war is their favourite way of exerting control over the masses, and of extracting profit from them.
The producers say their main weapon for keeping this hold over populations, is the central banking system, or the Federal Reserve in the US. They say it is anything but Federal, in fact its a private banking system, owned by a few families who basically loan the government money to put into the system, and to run the country. Those mentioned were J.D. Rockefeller, J.P. Morgan, Paul Warburg, and Baron Rothschild. The problem they say, is these loans then accrue interest. Then the government must go back to the Federal Reserve and ask for another loan, to cover the interest, and the cycle continues. This, they say, is the cause of inflation, and there is only 1 outcome from this process, eternal debt for the country. They say that to make extra cash, the bankers, from behind the scenes and with politicians that are allies as the frontmen, bring about wars and prolong them. This forces the country to borrow more cash from the Federal Reserve, and therefore building up more loan repayments and interest owed.
The film attempts to prove that the US entered its 3 main wars of the 20th century, World War I, World War II, and Vietnam, through set-ups, orchestrated by those very bankers. They also blame the "Great Depression" and the current "War On Terror", as being banking-backed exercises, designed to be prolonged, to make profit for some. The film goes on to portray society as being dumbed down, by an emphasis put on "entertainment" rather than "personal growth", through the filtration of TV, computer games, and other forms of entertainment. And that the education system is built to keep people dumbed down too, as is religion. They say it is this combination of being under the control of the corporations by having to slave for them to pay off personal debts, being under the rules of religion, and under the spell of entertainment, that is shackling us. And that these families of bankers have used this as their recipe for control for many years.
Towards the end of the film is an interesting insight into one member of one of those powerful banking families. Aaron Russo, a film maker and politician, became friendly with Nicholas Rockefeller for a while. He says he ended the friendship after learning about the Rockefellers ambitions and attitudes towards the mass population.... So he said to me one night, "There's gonna be an event, Aaron. And out of that event you're gonna see we are going to go into Afghanistan so we can run the pipelines from the Caspian Sea, we are going to go into Iraq to take the oil and establish a base in the Middle-East, and then we are going to go into Venezuela and try to get rid off that Chavez..... And so you're gonna see guys going into caves, looking for people they never gonna find", you know, he's laughing about the fact that you have this war on terror and there's no real enemy.... I said, "How you're gonna convinced people that this war is real?" He said, "By the media. The media can convince everybody it's real. You know, it's just that you keep talking about things, you keep saying it over and over and over again and eventually people believe this." ....And I would say, "what are you doing this for? What's the point of this thing? You have all the money in the world you'd ever want, you have all the power." I said, "You know, you're hurting people, it's not a good thing." And he would say, "What do you care about the people for? Take care of yourself, and take care of your family." And then I said to him, "What are the ultimate goals here?" He said, "The ultimate goal is to get everybody in this world chipped with an RFID chip." And to have all the money to be on those chips, and everything on those chips. And if anybody wants to protest what we do or violate what we want, we just turn off their chip."
