Largest Current UN Peacekeeping Forces In The World
Related Facts & Figures |
|
There are currently just over 100,000 uniformed personnel deployed by the United Nations, on various 'peacekeeping' missions, around the World. The overall size of the entire peacekeeping force has increased gradually since its 2003 total of 40,000, to it's largest size ever. The bulk of this multinational force is situated in African and Asian warzones, and they are backed up by more than 23,000 international civilian personnel, local civilian staff and United Nations volunteers, who mostly perform administration and humanitarian assistance. Whilst the US heavily finances UN peacekeeping operations (27% in 2009), the majority of troops come from developing nations. |
