Below is a rough set of figures showing the general military spending per continent. We can see from these set of figures that North America, Europe and Asia spend most of the overall budget. This list is derived from data which is put together by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), on a yearly basis, as part of the SIPRI Yearbook, a publication which outlines data and analysis in the areas of national security, conflicts, military spending, armaments, non-proliferation, arms control and disarmament.

2010 Global Data Release: What's Different?

The continuous rise in overall global war-related spending is very notable, with a way-above-inflation 4.5% rise in yearly military spending worldwide, even though we are in the midst of the worst worldwide financial recession in living memory. The only continent, region or sub-region to not see an overall rise in military spending, within the 2010 SIPRI Yearbook, was rather ironically, the Middle East.
