The United States, Canada and Mexico contribute the majority of the continents GDP, with over US$16 trillion of the World's overall yearly total of US$60 trillion being turned over by them, and their 1994 North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) has further consolidated their economic monopoly in the region. However a large chunk of the overall North American GDP comes from the United States alone, which is by far the largest economy in the World, with a Nominal GDP of US$14 trillion currently fuelling their society on a yearly basis.

This economic power also translates to politics, with the US not only holding sway over the area, but also over most of the World too. In truth, there remains a diverse mixture of extremely wealthy and drastically poor countries and colonised dependencies in North America, Central America and the Caribbean, and even in the richest nations, there are massive inequalities between different sections of society.

Location of North America
Map showing location of North America
The geographical North American continent is made up from a large mainland, many small island nations and central American republics, with boundaries stretching across the Arctic Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea too. It's total physical size is mostly attributed to Canada, the United States, Greenland and Mexico, and overall, North America makes up just under 5% of the planet's total surface area - about 16.5% of the World's total land area - making it the third largest continent on the globe, after only Asia and Africa.
