This short interview with Tedd Weyman, the Deputy Director of the Uranium Medical Research Centre (UMRC), gives us an insight into what depleted uranium (DU) weapons actually represent. First of all, they are not 'safe' weapons. They are basically nuclear weapons, under a different guise, currently being used to dump excess western nuclear waste on Iraq and Afghanistan, as Weyman found out whilst leading major field studies into uranium contamination in both countries. Secondly they impact mostly on civilians, with many future Iraqi and Afghan generations bound to suffer massive rises in birth deformities and cancer, because, according to Weyman, depleted uranium contamination in the environment can be harmful for millions of years. Not to mention the homecoming soldiers, and the contamination they carry with them. So why do our governments and corporations continue to do this to other nations? |
