John Fitzgerald 'Jack' Kennedy was born on May the 29th, 1917, in Brookline, Massachusetts. Most often referred to as 'JFK', Kennedy served in the US House of Representatives from 1947 to 1953, and then he held a seat in the Senate from 1953 until 1960. The lifelong Democrat then challenged, and defeated, the then Vice President Richard Nixon in the 1960 US presidential election, and went on to become the 35th president of the United States. JFK was assassinated in Dallas, Texas, on November the 22nd, 1963. Kennedy's presidency was significantly marked by the Bay of Pigs Invasion, the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Space Race, the African-American Civil Rights Movement and the Vietnam War.
