The Eyjafjallajökull volcano, in Southern Iceland, erupted twice in 2010. On March 20th there was a lesser eruption, but on April the 14th it really blew it's top! This caused widespread chaos for Europe's airspace, closing it down for days, but the flood damage which was caused by the subsequent melting of the island's glaciers was just as profound. This video, shot from above onboard an airplane, shows the plume of ash - which reached 9km high - and some of that aforementioned flood damage. |
