This is an excerpt from Canadian journalist, activist and documentary maker, Barry Zwicker's film 'The Great Conspiracy'. It depicts a 15 year old Kuwaiti girl making a speech on October the 10th 1990, at the 'Congressional Human Rights Caucus', which was being held Capitol Hill to showcase Iraqi human rights violations. This full day of testimonies was set-up because the US population were split 50-50 over invading Kuwait, to fight the Iraqi's, who had invaded Kuwait themselves the previous August, because - according to Saddam Hussein - Kuwait was drilling diagonally into Iraq's underground oilfields from inside Kuwait. Nayirah's testimony proclaiming that Kuwaiti babies had been taken out of incubators and left to die by the invading Iraqi's, was a real tear-jerker, and it helped to convince the US population to support Desert Storm. But, it turned out that the girl was a member of the Kuwaiti Royal Family. Her father was Saud Nasir al-Sabah, Kuwait's Ambassador to the US, and she had undergone intensive training with the Hill & Knowlton PR firm, to lie her way through this public hearing. The US and Kuwaiti authorities denied any wrongdoing, with Nayirah's daddy actually making this comment... "If I wanted to lie, or if we wanted to lie, if we wanted to exaggerate, I wouldn't use my daughter to do so. I could easily buy other people to do it". |
