The Irish national public broadcaster got a rare interview with George W Bush the day preceding his June '04 visit to Ireland, and his demeanour, and answers, are both very revealing indeed. He continually dodged answering real questions, by not debating within the interview. He seemed to be speaking from a pre-planned script, but the RTE reporter, Carole Coleman, would not let up on attempting to discuss Ireland's, and Europe's, anger, at Bush over his unnecessary wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, and over the civil rights abuses of his soldiers. Even with hardline questioning, he still managed to control the situation to his liking, but there is a disingenuous feeling attached to his every word, and facial expression. This interview was done for a special edition of the Prime Time show on RTE 1, the most popular investigative journalism show on Irish tv. It is reportedly 'banned' in the US, and has not been shown on prime time tv over there, but it is more likely 'hidden' than 'banned'. The interview was conducted in the Map Room, which is in The White House. |
